Vinyl Decals

What surfaces can custom vinyl decals be applied on?

Custom vinyl decals can be applied to almost any smooth or lightly textured surfaces like cars, trucks, trailers, motorcycles, atvs, boats, windows, smooth metal, painted walls, and wood. Our custom vinyl decals have been tested on windows, walls, general flat surfaces, semi-gloss and gloss paint with success. The surface must be clean, or the dirt/grease will cause the custom vinyl decal to peel from the surface.

Custom vinyl decals will not stick to rough or uneven surfaces like bare cinder block, brick, porous aluminum, or stucco surfaces.

Are vinyl decals easy to apply?

Yes. We send simple, step-by-step instructions with each vinyl decal order which you can see here.

Are you able to make custom vinyl decal designs?

Yes. Email us at sales@vinyldecalshop.us or contact us so we can discuss your custom vinyl decal design.

Can I apply vinyl decals on a newly painted car?

No. Normally you must wait at least 60 days for the paint to fully cure before you apply vinyl decals. Talk to the paint shop where you had your car painted for their recommendations of when a vinyl decal can be applied. Applying a vinyl decal on any surface is always at your own risk.

Can I choose different color vinyl decals than the ones displayed?

Yes. There are many vinyl colors we can order for your custom vinyl decals. | Check out our Vinyl Decal Color Chart.

Can I wax my car after applying a vinyl decal?

Yes. But we recommend hand waxing rather than using a power waxer/buffer. The buffer is spinning pretty fast and might catch the vinyl decal and pull it off. REMEMBER: Do not wax your car before installing your vinyl decal because the wax will interfere with the adhesives.

Do I need to do anything special after I install my vinyl decal?

It is best to avoid very wet or cold weather (under 60 degrees) conditions for 12 hours so that the vinyl decal can fully adhere to the surface to which was applied.

Do vinyl decals have a background?

No. All of the vinyl decals are cut out of one color. Typically when we show designs on our website or send you a proof only the black part of the design will be cut into the color you chose.

Vinyl Stickers

Will the vinyl stickers I receive come pre-separated or on rolls?

Our quality vinyl stickers come pre-separated and hold up to outdoor weather conditions. Roll stickers are generally printed using a printing method which does not hold up to outdoor conditions.

How do I set up my file?

You need to design your file in CMYK at 300dpi or greater and 100% print size. Include any special instructions in a separate file or separate layer. Don’t forget to add the bleed and safety areas. Indicate die cut lines, hole punches, and kiss cuts on separate layers.

If you have any questions feel free to contact us.

What is a bleed?

From Wikipedia: In printing, bleed is printing that goes beyond the edge of the sheet before trimming. In other words, the bleed is the area to be trimmed off. The bleed is the part on the side of a document that gives the printer a small amount of space to account for movement of the paper, and design inconsistencies. Artwork and background colors can extend into the bleed area. After trimming, the bleed ensures that no unprinted edges occur in the final trimmed document.

It is very difficult to print exactly to the edge of a sheet of paper/card so, to achieve this, it is necessary to print a slightly larger area than is needed and then trim the paper/card down to the required finished size. Images, background images and fills which are intended to extend to the edge of the page must be extended beyond the trim line to give a bleed.

Bleeds in the US generally are 1/8 of an inch from where the cut is to be made.

Artwork you send us must bleed 1/8″ beyond the sticker size on all sides. A bleed does not count towards your final sticker size – you do not pay for a bleed because it is cut off. As an example, if your sticker order is for 2″ x 2″ then the file you submit should be 2.25″ x 2.25″.

If you have any questions feel free to contact us.

What is the safety area?

All sticker artwork should have an 1/8″ safety area. This is the space between the sticker size and the design printed inside of your sticker. Keep all text and graphics within the safety area. As an example, if your sticker size is 2″ x 2″ then any important text and graphics should be within 1.75″ x 1.75″.

If you have any questions feel free to contact us.

What is a kiss cut vinyl sticker?

A kiss cut is a blade that lightly cuts the surface of the vinyl and cuts through the vinyl sticker but not through the paper backing. The kiss cut allows that part of the vinyl sticker to be peeled off, leaving the rest of the vinyl sticker on the paper backing. You can order multiple kiss cuts on your sticker to make a sticker sheet.

What is a die cut vinyl sticker?

A die cut is when we cut the entire vinyl sticker to be a custom shape of your choosing. Our high-end machines cut the vinyl sticker and its backing material to a unique shape.
